Managing situation & absence configuration
In Situation & absence configuration tab you can enable or disable two important metrics Time in role and Leave of absence.
Time in role
Time in role refers to the duration a worker has spent in their current position or role within an organization. This metric is often used to assess experience, eligibility for promotions, transfers, or additional responsibilities.
To enable this metric check the Enable time in role option.
Calculation basis
By default, time in role is calculated by day. If your compensation policies run on monthly cycles, you can calculate time in role using calendar months instead.
To change the calculation method, select one of the following options in the Calculation basis field:
Days: time in role is calculated using the exact date of each change. This is the default option, so existing configurations and calculations are not affected unless you select Months.
Months: time in role is calculated using calendar months. Situations then follow calendar-month boundaries instead of exact dates.
When you select Months, choose a Month alignment rule. This rule determines how a change that happens partway through a month is applied:
Start of the current month: the change takes effect from the first day of the month in which it occurs.
Start of the next month: the change takes effect from the first day of the following month.
Boundary day: you enter a day between 2 and 27. A change occurring before this day takes effect from the current month, while a change occurring after it takes effect from the following month.
Example: With a Boundary day of 15, a change on 15 May is effective from 1 May, while a change on 20 May is effective from 1 June.
When several changes fall into the same month, the platform creates a single situation using the latest value. Changes that fall into different months each create their own situation. Any associated data and calculated fields follow the same month-aligned boundaries.

Leave of absence
A Leave of absence (LOA) allows workers to take time off work for specific reasons beyond standard paid time off. It may be paid or unpaid, depending on company policies and the purpose of the leave. Common reasons include medical issues, family emergencies, maternity/paternity, education, or personal matters.
To enable this metric check the Enable leave of absence option. To select which absence types will apply to this policy and the related grace periods for these absences, proceed as follows:
